(Patria) - The Serbian government has declared November 1st a Day of Mourning on the anniversary of the tragedy that occurred due to the collapse of the railway station structure in Novi Sad.
A year ago, on November 1, 2024, 16 people were killed and one seriously injured in the fall of the concrete canopy of the reconstructed Novi Sad Railway Station.
The anniversary of this tragedy will be marked in Novi Sad tomorrow. Numerous students and citizens from all over Serbia have been walking for days to attend a large commemorative gathering.
Protests, led by students in blockade, have been ongoing in Serbia for a year, demanding accountability for the canopy collapse and the calling of early parliamentary elections, which the authorities persistently reject.
The Day of Mourning entails lowering flags to half-mast with appropriate lighting at night, and media, museums, theaters, cinemas, and sports halls are obliged to adjust their programs and music to the Day of Mourning.
