Serbia declares Day of Mourning over Cetinje tragedy

(Patria) - Serbia is observing a Day of Mourning today due to the tragedy that occurred in Montenegro, which resulted in 12 deaths and four serious injuries.

The session of the Serbian Government, where the decision was made, was attended by President Aleksandar Vučić, who stated that Serbia is thus showing its solidarity and empathy with the citizens of Montenegro.

He conveyed that Serbia is ready to provide any assistance that country requests.

We remind you that a grave crime occurred in Cetinje on January 1, in which 12 people, including two children, were killed. Four people were seriously injured.

The suspect in this crime in Cetinje, Aco Martinović (45), succumbed to his injuries the same night after shooting himself in the head, surrounded by police who had been searching for him for several hours.

In connection with this tragic event, January 2, 3, and 4 were declared days of mourning in Montenegro.

A minute of silence was held to honor the innocent victims at a commemorative session on Saturday.

Furthermore, regarding this unfortunate event, at a session of the National Security Council on Friday, the Government of Montenegro announced that it would adopt a new law on weapons, under which all those wishing to possess firearms will have to undergo rigorous checks before obtaining a permit.
