
(Patria) - Eight people died and seven were injured in a fire that broke out early Monday morning at a nursing home on the outskirts of Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, Serbian public broadcaster RTS reported.
Nemanja Starović, Serbia's Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, told RTS that they suspect the fire was deliberately set.
The fire at the home, located in Veliki Borak in the Belgrade municipality of Barajevo, has been extinguished by the swift reaction of firefighters, and it has been confirmed that 13 people were rescued from the flames.
Authorities received the report of the fire at the nursing home at 3:22 AM on Monday morning, and upon arrival at the scene, members of the Ministry of Interior's Sector for Emergency Situations found the fire in a raging state, officials announced.
