(Patria) - Police in Niš have detained student Mateja Nikolić from the Faculty of Law in Niš, following this evening's incidents when citizens threw eggs and poured water on the Mayor of Niš, and the SNS rally scheduled at the Officers' Home has been cancelled.
Students are appealing to journalists to come to the main police station.
Students have gathered in front of the Niš Police Administration, as have opposition MPs Jelena Milošević and Ana Eraković, Južne vesti reports.
A crowd has formed, and the police have come out and formed a cordon in front of the entrance.
Two events were supposed to take place in Niš today – a rally of the Serbian Progressive Party at the Officers' Home, which was to be attended by Ana Brnabić, Miloš Vučević, Darko Glišić, and other high-ranking officials of this party, while citizens of Niš organized a gathering nearby. Citizens threw eggs at SNS supporters.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić demanded that those who attacked the Mayor of Niš be arrested.
