Border police officer killed in Loznica, another wounded, attacker on the run

(Patria) - In a shooting that occurred on Wednesday evening in Loznica, police officer Nikola Krsmanović was killed, and another police officer was wounded. The shooting happened during a routine check of a taxi vehicle by traffic police officers, when several shots were fired from a firearm at the traffic police officers.

Strong police forces are intensively searching for the attacker, with police officers from the Šabac Police Department, as well as the Criminal Police Directorate, the Border Police Directorate, and members of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit on the ground, and drones and helicopters have been deployed.

The wounded police officer was admitted to the Loznica hospital with gunshot wounds to the back and shoulder and is in stable condition, as confirmed to RTS.

At the scene, police found a passport of one of the suspects, issued by the institutions of Kosovo in the name of Hajziri Artan (33), and a German ID card.

"When exiting the vehicle, one person fired a pistol, hitting police officer Nikola Krsmanović (1990) in the chest, and police officer Vjekoslav Ilić (1974) in the shoulder, after which he fled. Both police officers were transported to the General Hospital in Loznica, where Krsmanović succumbed to his injuries," stated Interior Minister Ivica Dačić in his first address to the public.
