New record electricity consumption recorded in Croatia

(Patria) - On Tuesday, July 16, at 8 PM, a new record electricity consumption of 3,341 megawatt-hours (MWh) was recorded, announced the Croatian Transmission System Operator (HOPS) the following day.

During the heatwave, which has lasted for almost two weeks, another record, maximum electricity consumption and a new summer maximum hourly consumption since HOPS began recording it, was registered, according to the statement.

"Although, according to planned values, a new maximum in electricity consumption is not expected to be reached today, if we compare today's electricity consumption of 3,259 MWh at 2 PM with yesterday's at the same hour (3,219 MWh), we notice an increase of 1.2 percent.

Therefore, we can expect that yesterday's maximum hourly electricity consumption will be reached today," HOPS estimated in yesterday's statement.

Given the increasingly intense tourist season and the growing use of air conditioning in all tourist facilities, workspaces, and residential buildings, they expect that this summer the maximum hourly electricity consumption will continue to break previously recorded record values.

HOPS emphasizes that the availability of the transmission network is at a high level and that they do not expect problems in the regular supply of electricity.

The electricity needs of the Croatian power system are met by domestic power plants and electricity imports, of which almost half is generated from the Croatian share of the Krško Nuclear Power Plant, the statement published by HOPS on its website concludes.
