Mayor and soldier fight in Croatia

(Patria) - The Varaždin Police Department announced today that around 1 a.m. yesterday in Orehovec near Novi Marof, a verbal and physical conflict occurred between two men aged 45 and 52.

One of them was the mayor of Novi Marof, Siniša Jenkač.

The conflict took place in the parking lot in front of a weekend house, after which the 52-year-old received medical assistance at the Varaždin General Hospital, while the 45-year-old left the scene and subsequently reported to the Novi Marof Police Station.

There, he was questioned on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of attempted grievous bodily harm.

The mayor of Novi Marof, Siniša Jenkač, confirmed that he participated in the conflict.

- I can confirm that at the mentioned time, at the mentioned location, I participated in the incident and hereby express my regret.

Since the investigation is ongoing, I must not comment or provide details. I am willing to comment on the entire event when the investigation and the entire process officially conclude - the mayor stated.

The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Croatia (MORH) also issued a statement.

"We can confirm that during the night over the weekend, a conflict occurred in which an active military person was injured.

The member of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia received medical assistance at the Varaždin General Hospital, where minor bodily injuries were determined, and he was discharged home.

All other information is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Interior, which is conducting the appropriate proceedings in this case," MORH stated.

Jenkač (HDZ) has been the mayor of Novi Marof since 2015, and he also served as a representative in the 10th convocation of the Croatian Parliament.
