Emergency flood defense measures in effect in Croatia, Danube at 670 centimeters

(Patria) - Emergency flood defense measures have been in effect on the Danube in Croatia since this morning, after the river's water level was measured above 670 early this morning.

The peak of the water wave coming from Hungary is expected in Croatia on Wednesday, and all services are prepared for its arrival.

“We are on duty 24 hours a day, we have prepared everything, we have about 50,000 sacks in reserve, we have closed all passages, storm drains, culverts, all places that are normally open when the situation is regular,” said Željko Kovačević from Hrvatske vode, as reported by HRT.

The town of Batina is protected by an embankment that can withstand water levels up to 900 centimeters, and Croatian hydrologists earlier said they do not expect the Danube's water level to be higher than the level reached in 2013.
