Graffiti denying Srebrenica genocide appears in Belgrade city center

(Patria) - A large graffiti appeared in the center of Belgrade, written in English: "The only genocide in the Balkans was against Serbs".

The graffiti was painted on a building on Knez Mihailova Street in the very center of the city, reports RSE.

Below the lettering on a black background, the ultranationalist group "Narodna patrola" (People's Patrol) signed it.

On the Telegram channel of this unregistered organization, a video of the graffiti was published on May 30th with the message "We remember, we pray. Let many others be ashamed".

The graffiti appeared after the United Nations adopted a Resolution on May 23rd, declaring July 11th as the International Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide.

"Narodna patrola" is known for glorifying Ratko Mladić, who was convicted of genocide in Srebrenica at The Hague, organizing protests in support of Russia after its invasion of Ukraine, and attacking refugees and migrants.

The adoption of the Srebrenica Resolution was also opposed by the Serbian authorities, whose representatives stated that it attributed collective responsibility to the Serbian people.

In Belgrade, billboards with the message "We are not a genocidal nation" appeared before the UN session.

They featured the coats of arms of Serbia and Republika Srpska.

The Resolution, incidentally, does not mention any nation or state. It condemns the denial of genocide and the glorification of war criminals.

It points to facts established by the judgments of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the International Court of Justice, as well as domestic courts.
