Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton investigates Karić and Čengić: Paid significantly more than the value for the renovation of a park that is already falling apart!

(Patria) - A criminal complaint against Benjamina Karić (SDP), Mayor of Sarajevo, Irfan Čengić (SDP), Head of Stari Grad, Vedad Deljković (DF), councilor in Stari Grad, Adnan Babić from the company Babel d.o.o., and Edina Sabrihafizović from the company Arhitektonik, among others, has been received by the Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton.

"The Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton received the said complaint on September 17, 2024. The acting prosecutor is taking actions to verify the allegations in the complaint," they stated from the Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton for Patria.

As we learn, documentation has already been seized, and accordingly, a final decision by the acting prosecutor is expected.



The public is already widely discussing irregularities related to the reconstruction project of the park/playground in the Medresa Local Community.

The project for the complete renovation of this playground, worth around 150,000 KM, was jointly implemented by the Stari Grad Municipality and the City Administration of Sarajevo.

From the SDA Stari Grad, they claim that the work was very poorly executed and that certain items in the project were paid far above the actual price.

It was noted that the contractor priced the locksmith work at 10,000 KM, yet upon entering the park, it is evident that there is not even a simple door handle.

A basket that, according to the work performed, cost a full 10,000 KM, a fence that was only repaired and painted for nearly 20,000 KM, and four lamps, which are barely noticeable, cost almost 10,000 KM.

"Regarding the lamps, which they listed as reflectors," they point out from the SDA, "by simple market research, we determined that the installed lamps are from the manufacturer Brayton, which retail for 71.50 KM. So, a total of four installed lamps cost less than 300 KM, but they were paid 10,000."

A small children's chair was paid 2,000 KM, and whether it is really worth that much, judge for yourselves, they state from this party.

- The rubber base, which was paid more than 30,000 KM, is already crumbling and can be separated from the surface by hand - they stated.

Mayor Karić and Čengić have not commented on these allegations, but they will have to submit documentation and provide statements regarding the accusations made by a group of citizens, whose claims are being investigated by the Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton.
