(Patria) - A tragedy occurred in Šibenik on Saturday in which a woman died.
Around 7 p.m., near the Cathedral of St. James, a tragedy took place at a wedding celebration. During the firing of a signal flare, a woman was struck and sustained severe head injuries.
She was rushed to the General Hospital in Šibenik, where she died.
Police in Šibenik confirmed the incident and that one person has been taken into custody.
It was later confirmed that the suspect, a 52-year-old man, was arrested and brought to police premises, and a criminal investigation has been launched against him.
The police are conducting an investigation to determine all the circumstances of the accident.
A signal flare is a pyrotechnic device used in the military, aviation and maritime sectors to emit light or sound signals, most often as a distress call or to mark a position. It is also frequently used by fans at sporting events.
After being fired, it produces a strong light (red or white) or a loud noise. Due to its high launch speed, it can be dangerous if not handled carefully, as this tragedy has unfortunately shown.
