Tragedy in Osijek: Freight elevator fell on elderly woman in nursing home

(Patria) - A seventy-five-year-old woman died yesterday afternoon in a private nursing home in Osijek when a small freight elevator used by staff for food delivery fell on her.

The scene of the tragedy was disturbing, as the body of the unfortunate woman lay on the hallway floor, with her head trapped under the elevator.

- We can only say that a female person died and that we are currently determining if there are elements of a criminal offense in this case.

An investigation and expert examinations are underway to determine if the elevator was functional, if it was regularly serviced, and all circumstances that led to the accident.

An autopsy of the deceased woman's body has also been ordered - said Ivan Barna, spokesperson for the Municipal State Attorney's Office in Osijek, for Jutarnji list.
