(Patria) - The second round of local elections was held in Croatia today, and the first results began arriving immediately after polling stations closed at 7:00 PM.
Tomislav Tomašević (Možemo) was re-elected as mayor of Zagreb.
Tomašević won 130,996 or 57.56% of the votes, while his opponent Marija Selak Raspudić received 96,590 or 42.44% of the votes.
The candidate of HDZ and its partners, Tomislav Šuta, defeated Ivica Puljak in the race for mayor of Split. Šuta received the trust of 30,586 or 53.19% of voters, while Puljak got 26,921 or 46.81%.
The victory in Split was also declared by HDZ's parliamentary speaker Gordan Jandroković.
- With great joy and satisfaction, I must say that HDZ is the convincing winner of the elections. We received information that we also won Varaždin County, meaning - 15 counties.
We won Split, which is absolutely the biggest victory. We are extremely proud and I congratulate Mr. Šuta. He ran an excellent, affirmative campaign.
I will repeat once again what I said in the first round. A rumor was created that we are a party that does not win in large cities: among the 10 largest - five are ours, among the largest 20, more than 10 are ours - Jandroković said.
The new mayor of Rijeka is the candidate of the Youth Action and its partners, Iva Rinčić, who defeated the city's previous first man Marko Filipović. Rinčić won 19,787 or 64.96%, while Filipović received 10,675 or 35.04% of the votes.
