Tanker and van collision on motorway in Slovenia: One person killed, two injured, fire broke out

(Patria) - One person was killed and two were injured in a collision between a van and a fuel tanker on a motorway in Slovenia.

The traffic accident occurred around 8:00 a.m. between the junctions of Slovenska Konjica and Slovenska Bišnja, and after the collision the tanker exploded, with flames engulfing both vehicles.

The motorway was closed in both directions due to the risk of the fire spreading.

The tanker overturned on the motorway and slid into the other lane, where a van with a driver and one passenger was traveling.

The tanker driver was trapped in the vehicle and died at the scene.

Commander of the Slovenske Kristice fire service, David Prelog, stated that the fire was brought under control, but that the situation on the ground was dangerous because the tanker contained more than 30,000 litres of fuel.

He noted that more than 70 firefighters were engaged in extinguishing the fire.
