Experts from BiH against, Croatia continues Trgovska Gora project, Parliament adopts law!

(Patria) - The Croatian Parliament adopted the law on the construction of a radioactive waste management center at Trgovska Gora, on the very border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Official Zagreb claims the project is safe, but experts and politicians from BiH warn of possible catastrophic consequences for human health and the environment in the area.

The Croatian Parliament, after more than two decades of opposition from Bosnia and Herzegovina, debated for two days the law on the construction of a radioactive waste management center at Trgovska Gora in the municipality of Dvor, on the very border with BiH. Despite warnings of possible consequences for health and the environment, the law was adopted under an urgent procedure.

While political representatives and experts in Bosnia and Herzegovina warn of risks and unfulfilled safety assessments, Zagreb says there is no reason for concern.

"We say openly and clearly that Trgovska Gora is an unacceptable location for waste disposal for us. We want to build good neighborly relations with the Republic of Croatia, we want partnership in this, and I hope that the academic community in Croatia will also speak out and point out all the consequences that can occur," said Halid Makić, a professor of biotechnical sciences at the University of Bihać.

Due to the accelerated procedure, municipalities that could be endangered appealed to Croatian representatives, claiming that the decision was made politically, without an environmental impact assessment, but it yielded no results.
