(Patria) - Police in Trogir arrested a 50-year-old man suspected of attempting to poison a child with rodenticide used to control harmful rodents, in the town of Arbanija, and he was handed over to the custody supervisor along with a criminal report, the Split-Dalmatia police reported on Saturday.
On Wednesday, January 15, a report was received from parents whose child was given a bag by an unknown man in the area of Arbanija, a coastal town on the island of Čiovo, saying it contained candy and telling him to try it.
The boy justifiably doubted the truthfulness of the unknown man's claims, did not consume them, saw that the bag did not contain candy, and informed his parents about the incident, the Split-Dalmatia Police Department announced.
A criminal investigation determined that the bag contained a substance for controlling harmful rodents, it added.
The police immediately, with the aim of protecting children, launched an intensive criminal investigation focused on identifying the unknown man and finding him.
During the investigation over the past three days, a large number of interviews were conducted, checks in specialized stores selling these and similar substances, checks of video surveillance, and checks of persons and vehicles.
On Friday, January 17, the police arrested a 50-year-old man who was linked to the incident, the Police Department stated, as reported by Hina.
