State Department approves Croatia's sale of Black Hawk helicopters

(Patria) - The US State Department has approved Croatia's potential sale of Black Hawk helicopters and related equipment and services in a deal estimated at $500 million, the Pentagon announced yesterday.

The Pentagon stated that Lockheed Martin will be the prime contractor, reports RSE.

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency yesterday submitted the necessary certification, notifying Congress of the potential sale of eight Black Hawk helicopters.

"The proposed sale will enhance Croatia's capability to deter current and future threats and support coalition operations, as well as improve interoperability with the US and other NATO forces," the agency stated.

The statement emphasizes that "the proposed sale will support US foreign policy and national security by enhancing the security of a NATO ally that continues to be an important force for political stability and economic progress in Europe".

It is pointed out that the Croatian government sought to purchase eight UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, 19 T700-GE 701D engines, as well as other related equipment, and adds that Croatia requested training devices and equipment.
