(Patria) - Officials of Serbia and Hungary signed a joint political declaration and six agreements in Budapest today.
Following the second session of the Council for Strategic Cooperation between the two countries, the joint political declaration was signed by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
After signing the agreements, Orbán stated that friendly relations bind Serbia and Hungary, and that the two countries see an opportunity in the "new reality" in the world that has opened up after Donald Trump's victory in the US elections.
- What is new is the situation in the world. We call it a new reality caused by the outcome of the American elections. Now, new forces that have been suppressed until now will be successful - Orbán believes.
Vučić stated that the political, economic, and interpersonal ties between Serbia and Hungary are deepening, adding that 173 cooperation agreements have been signed between the two countries so far.
He also emphasized that Serbia and Hungary are solving problems and tackling challenges together.
- We are soon finishing the study for the oil pipeline and will proceed with its construction. We will expand gas capacities in storage facilities in Hungary. We currently have 160 million cubic meters of gas, but we must fill these storage facilities to ensure we have not only enough gas but also electricity - Vučić added.
He also mentioned that Serbia and Hungary are jointly building the "Pannonian Corridor" power line to reduce network losses.
- Serbia will always be a reliable partner for Hungary, and when we build an oil pipeline, we build it with them. We know we have friends and that we will always have a secure supply - Vučić said.
Relevant ministers of Serbia and Hungary signed six agreements today in the presence of Vučić and Orbán, including the Treaty on International Legal Assistance in Civil Matters between the governments of Serbia and Hungary and the Program of Cooperation in the Field of Culture for the period 2024-2027 between the Ministry of Culture of Serbia and the Ministry of Culture and Innovation of Hungary.
They also signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of Serbia and the Ministry of Culture and Innovation of Hungary, and a document titled "Extension of the Work Plan of Hungarian Experts in the Field of European Integration".
The ministers also signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding between these two ministries on development cooperation.
