(Patria) - A 59-year-old man who committed several traffic violations and had previously been punished for similar offenses has been permanently deprived of his Mini Cooper car by the Municipal Misdemeanor Court in Split.
Police officers from the First Police Station in Split stopped the 59-year-old on November 8, 2023, around 1:00 PM in Hercegovačka Street in Split.
At that time, it was determined that he was driving a vehicle while his driver's license was suspended, and the vehicle's registration had expired.
The vehicle he was driving was temporarily confiscated, and after the criminal investigation was completed, he was brought before the Municipal Misdemeanor Court in Split.
The spokesperson for the Split-Dalmatia Police Department, Antonela Lolić, stated that the misdemeanor proceedings concluded with a verdict finding the 59-year-old guilty of violations of the Road Traffic Safety Act.
He was fined for driving a vehicle with expired registration, and for driving while his driver's license was suspended, he was sentenced to jail time, specifically a one-year suspended sentence.
He was also issued a protective measure prohibiting him from driving a Category B motor vehicle for 12 months, and the vehicle was confiscated, becoming the property of the Republic of Croatia.
- In this specific case, we are dealing with a repeat offender, or a person who has previously been legally punished for similar offenses such as driving while prohibited, refusing to undergo testing for the presence of narcotics in the body, which are inherently serious traffic violations and pose a high degree of danger and risk to road users - added Lolić.
