Spajić announced: Montenegro to abolish visa-free regime for Turkish citizens

(Patria) - Prime Minister of Montenegro Milojko Spajić announced the temporary abolition of the visa-free regime for Turkish citizens.

"In order to preserve economic activity and good bilateral relations, in the coming period, we will initiate intensive talks with the Republic of Turkey in order to find the best model in the mutual interest, in the spirit of good cooperation and alliance", Spajić announced on social network X.

The decision of the Montenegrin Prime Minister followed an incident on Sunday in the Podgorica neighborhood of Zabjelo, where a Montenegrin citizen was injured with a knife. For the attack, an Azerbaijani citizen Y.G. (31) and a Turkish citizen N.D. (54) were arrested, whom the prosecution suspects of the criminal offense of violent behavior.

Montenegrin media reported that as part of an extensive police operation, another 45 citizens of Turkey and Azerbaijan were detained, who were subjected to criminal processing, as well as checks regarding the legality of their stay in Montenegro.

The Police Administration appealed to citizens to remain dignified and not to succumb to emotions or calls for lynching.
