(Patria) - The Government of Kosovo approved the proposal of the Ministry of Defense to send members of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) to Gaza, paving the way for the decision to be sent to parliament for consideration and adoption.
According to current laws, after the executive branch's decision, the issue is forwarded to the MPs for consideration and voting, and finally, the approval of the President of the country is also required.
Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated at the Government session that Kosovo is ready to participate and help the people of Gaza, as, he stated, they themselves have been beneficiaries of international forces' assistance since 1999.
Minister of Defense Ejup Maqedonci emphasized that with this engagement, Kosovo wants to show that it is a reliable partner and that it is ready to act together with allies to ensure peace and security, reports Radio Free Europe (RSE).
"This decision further strengthens the international profile of our country, confirms the professionalism of the KSF, and places our republic among the countries that not only benefit from international security but also continuously contribute to maintaining international peace and order," said Maqedonci.
The decision to send troops was adopted without votes against or abstentions.
The deployment of KSF members is expected to be realized within the International Stabilization Force, a mechanism formed within the Peace Committee initiative, proposed by US President Donald Trump, with the aim of achieving world peace.
Kosovo is among the first five countries – along with Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, and Albania – that have committed to participating in this mission, with the aim of ensuring security and monitoring the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
As RSE writes, it is not yet known exactly when the troops will be deployed and how many there will be.
The Assembly of Kosovo, which is functional again after the Constitutional Court made a decision on March 25 that the decree of President Vjosa Osmani on dissolving the parliament had no legal effect, can now consider the issue of sending troops to Gaza, and must also adopt the agreement on Kosovo's membership in the International Stabilization Force.
