They landed in the Sava River with their car, instead of reversing the driver put it in first gear and submerged the vehicle

(Patria) - A young man and a girl drove their car into the Sava River, under the bridge on Ada, Serbian media report.

The cause is most likely that the driver confused reverse and first gear, and the accident happened around 3:30 AM.

"At one point, he started the car, and instead of putting it in reverse, he put it in first gear. Then the car started moving forward and they drove into the river," said a witness.

Fortunately, the girl and the young man managed to get out of the car before it sank.

The witness said he saw them swim to the shore and they were not injured as far as he could see.

The police conducted an investigation and are currently determining the circumstances of this accident.
