Situation at wildfire sites in Montenegro slightly improved

(Patria) - Fires that have been burning for seven days at multiple locations in Montenegro have been brought under control, and as of Saturday morning there are no threatened buildings, RTCG reported.

Currently, several fires are active, including in Podgorica, Nikšić, Danilovgrad, Bijelo Polje and Šavnik. In Podgorica, the most critical areas are Kuči and Piperi, and in Nikšić, the village of Petrovići.

An aircraft from Montenegro's Aviation-Helicopter Unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is expected to extinguish the fire at the Petrovići site in Nikšić today, the Vijesti.me portal reported.

In Kuči, both helicopters of the Army of Montenegro are engaged, and soldiers are providing ground support, more than 20 of them.

A helicopter from the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina will operate at the Bioče-Potoci location, while a helicopter from the Czech Republic, with a crew of seven members, will defend Stijena Piperska, Kopilje and Seoce.

A rescue team of 50 members from Austria is engaged at the Stijena Piperska location, while a Swiss team of 26 people and four vehicles is deployed at the Kopilje location, also in Piperi.
