Massive store boycott across Croatia today due to exorbitantly high prices

(Patria) - Croatia has the highest increase in consumer prices, causing public outrage. Citizens have been called to massively boycott stores, retail chains, and gas stations in Croatia today.

"On January 24th, a boycott against high food prices is taking place in Croatia. People are urged not to buy anything that day, absolutely nothing. Prepare for that day as if it were a Sunday.

The same thing happened in the United Kingdom with fuel; the price dropped by 15 pence per litre the second day, and they also raised wages by £100 per month.

If ten percent of people do this, it is a big loss for retail chains, and you will lose absolutely nothing that day. They will," reads a message circulating on social media.

Citizens announce they will respond, while retailers and entrepreneurs emphasize that the dissatisfaction is being directed at the wrong address.

The store boycott was also supported by the parliamentary opposition, as well as the Minister of Economy, Ante Šušnjar of the DP, who recommended that citizens bake their own bakery products.

Krešimir Sever from the NHS believes that the store boycott, announced for today, is the most effective way to fight high prices, as confirmed by examples from Italy, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.

He emphasizes that retailers will not lower prices as long as citizens continue to buy at high prices and points out that the key lies in full shelves, as this puts pressure on the entire sales chain.

Although the boycott will not yield immediate results, Sever urges that citizens should be encouraged to use "the weapon in their hands" and organize weekly boycotts of individual retail chains.

He believes the boycott is simpler than public protests, and although government price control measures help, reducing VAT on food items has not led to a drop in prices.

Opposition deputies announced they would support the boycott, stressing that while inflation is squeezing citizens, the government is reaping the benefits of unchecked inflation in the budget, and retailers are getting rich on margins, so this is actually a boycott due to the government's inaction.
