The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH yesterday sent a protest note to Montenegro due to the statement by the President of the Montenegrin Parliament, Andrija Mandić, that the "all-Serbian assembly" is a gathering of two states, announced the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elmedin Konaković.
Let us recall, this is the second protest note that BiH has sent to Montenegro since the formation of the government of Milojko Spajić. The first was sent in early March, because during the visit of Milorad Dodik and the meeting with Mandić in the Parliament building, the official flag of BiH was not displayed, only the symbols of the smaller Bosnian-Herzegovinian entity, the RS.
In addition to BiH, Croatia recently also sent a protest note to Montenegro, regarding the announced adoption of a parliamentary resolution on the genocide in Jasenovac.
Commenting on the sending of the new protest note to Montenegro, political scientist and associate at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Podgorica, Marko Savić, tells Patria that this is the first necessary and expected reaction from official BiH.
- The reason is clear because, regardless of the platitudes uttered at that assembly, it is aimed at rounding off the nationalist regressive policy of official Serbia and is directly aimed at destroying the integrity of BiH.
We must stop the delusions that Mandić goes to Belgrade sometimes as a friend, sometimes as a visitor, with or without a tie. He was there in his capacity as the President of the Parliament of Montenegro and in that capacity he spoke with the new Serbian Prime Minister - emphasizes Savić.
He points out how Mandić wants the freedom to choose when he is the only authentic representative of Serbs in Montenegro, and when he is the President of the Parliament.
- That imagined freedom of his costs Montenegro its reputation in the region and beyond - says the interlocutor of Patria.
The leaders of the former Democratic Front openly lamented during the assembly because they were invited only as guests from Montenegro, wishing for more direct Montenegrin participation in similar gatherings. Such messages, Savić points out, are cause for concern.
- Montenegro, the sober one, aware of its fate, should be concerned daily. How, with such institutional and democratic capacities, to resist policies that are opposed to progress, cooperation, and maintaining peace. That is a concern - says Savić.
He adds that Andrija Mandić and Milan Knežević consistently follow their ideological worldviews.
- They are clear to us. What is concerning is that there is no hint of what the response of the civic political forces will be, whether Montenegro is capable of producing a clear, unambiguous civic and political response to all this - emphasizes Savić.
Asked whether the messages from the assembly, which was accompanied by rhetoric from the 1990s and organized with direct support from Russia, should be an alarm for the region, our interlocutor recalls that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently stated that Russia will not abandon Serbia and has its support.
- I ask myself, for what? For strengthening the integration path into the EU or, God forbid, strengthening strategic cooperation with NATO, certainly not. But it is for formalizing the use of its most useful proxy in the region, Milorad Dodik, with the aim of causing regional divisions - assesses Savić.
He notes that Serbia is positioning itself as a key instigator of regional stability, with a narrative about its own endangerment and that of all Serbs in the region.
- That is a proven matrix, such were the pamphlets of the SPC and SANU from the recent past. The entire assembly is the rounding off of a great-state nationalist policy with inevitable revisionism - assesses Savić.
This, according to his words, is disastrous for the region, but also for civic Serbia.
The interlocutor of Patria does not expect the Government to react and distance itself from Mandić's and Knežević's statements and actions.
- I think there is not enough courage in this composition of the Government for it to position itself as even remotely serious. There is also not enough knowledge to interpret such activities of Vučić and his comrades Mandić and Knežević.
And if it is a matter of silence despite awareness, then we are living in an advanced level of politicking and partitocracy. We will see everything as soon as the announced reconstruction of the Government begins. Bad performances - concludes Savić.
