ALLIANCE STRONGER THAN EVER: Čović helps Dodik lead the country into a political dead end

By: Amina Čorbo-Zećo

The session of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PSBiH) ended with the expected outcome – the quorum was broken, meaning that no vote was taken on the issues on the agenda.

The director of today's session was Dragan Čović, leader of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ BiH), who, together with his partners from the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), devised a plan that resulted in the blocking of the session.
Because, how else to describe putting the amendments to the Election Law of BiH on the agenda, just like that, and in the midst of the collapse of the constitutional order of BiH.

The plan is simple. So as not to think that SNSD, Milorad Dodik's party, is the main bearer of the blockade, they dragged the Bosniak Club into the game, which broke the quorum, because there was no other way to stop Čović's madness.

And Čović, apparently, as we have always written, has directed his political game towards strengthening the alliance with SNSD, all in order to achieve the goals he considers vital for the Croat people in BiH.

The political games played in the House of Peoples are not just a "game" between political leaders, but have concrete consequences for the daily lives of BiH citizens. The question arises here: who are the real losers of this political game? First and foremost, it is the citizens, who are facing uncertainty and stagnation in the adoption of key laws and reforms, which the current government insists on.
In the political game currently unfolding in BiH, the issue of government stability, the rule of law, and the ability of political leaders to reach a consensus becomes crucial.

With this, Čović makes Dodik's job easier to get to the long-awaited negotiations. And whoever sits down at the table with Milorad Dodik unequivocally ends their political career. Because Dodik crossed the red line long ago, and there should be no more negotiations with him.

One thing is clear: Dragan Čović is strengthening his alliance with SNSD and using all political tools to achieve their common goals.

Also, the opposition to the dismissal of SNSD cadres in the House of Representatives of the PSBiH showed one thing again – Dodik and Čović have never been closer. Čović lured the opposition from Republika Srpska into negotiations about a supposed agreement for some new coalition. But, it is increasingly certain that there is absolutely nothing to it.
