(Patria) - North Macedonia yesterday called presidential and parliamentary elections.
The first round of elections for head of state will be held on April 24, and the second round along with parliamentary elections on May 8, local media report.
- Today, in accordance with my constitutional powers and the deadlines stipulated by the constitution, I have signed the decisions to call elections for the President of North Macedonia and for members of the Sobranie - said Speaker of Parliament Jovan Mitreski on Wednesday.
He stated that the first round of the seventh presidential elections will be held on April 24, 2024, while the second round will be on the same day as the vote for the 11th parliamentary elections - May 8.
In preparation for the parliamentary elections held in January this year, a technical government, headed by Talat Xhaferi, was formed 100 days before the elections.
Xhaferi warned yesterday that the possibility of foreign influence on the upcoming elections is not excluded, but that his country is ready to fight such challenges.
- In any case, this is an assessment by both the state and international partners. Based on experience from electoral processes in other countries that have taken place in the previous period, the possibility of such influence is not excluded, given that there are already indications through fake news and misuse of media space that things are heading in that direction - Xhaferi stated to the state agency MIA.
