'Radioactive barrel' in front of the Croatian Embassy: 'We do not want to be the European Union's nuclear dump'

(Patria) - Activists of the Naprijed BiH movement today left a yellow barrel with a radioactive hazard sign in front of the building of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Sarajevo.

Their intention was to send a strong message against the planned disposal of nuclear waste at Trgovska Gora, right on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"With this clear and peaceful act of protest, we are saying that we do not agree to Bosnia and Herzegovina and its people bearing the consequences of your bad intentions.

Trgovska Gora is not anyone's landfill, and our region must not become the European Union's nuclear dump," the activists stated.



They reminded that Croatia plans to dispose of European nuclear waste at the Trgovska Gora location, on the border with BiH - only a few hundred meters from the homes, schools, orchards, and drinking water sources of more than 250,000 people from municipalities in the Una River basin.

This move is not only unacceptable, they emphasize, it is a crime against people and nature.

"We ask the competent institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina - where is the state's reaction, where is the determination to defend the people?

We demand the immediate cessation of the Trgovska Gora project, the initiation of international diplomatic and legal proceedings, and transparent information and protection for all endangered citizens.

This is not a party issue. This is a matter of life and death. Therefore, we will not remain silent," the activists stated.
