Bodies of two more Croatian mountaineers found in Slovenia

(Patria) - The rescue operation below the Tosca peak in the Julian Alps, where an avalanche buried three Croatian mountaineers on Sunday, has concluded. It ended tragically. One was found dead on Sunday afternoon, while the bodies of the remaining two were found on Monday.

As announced by the Kranj Police Department on Sunday evening, a group of seven Croatian mountaineers arrived at Vodnikov dom on Saturday after climbing Triglav, where they spent the night. Four of them stayed at the lodge.

The cause of the tragedy in which three young mountaineers from the Split area lost their lives was a spontaneous avalanche that occurred at an altitude of 1800 meters. The tragedy was further exacerbated by the warm ground, which prevented the snow from adhering firmly to the ground, and the strong wind that created drifts also hampered the search.

The Slovenian Army also participated in the rescue operation.

The Croatian Minister of the Interior, Davor Božinović, also traveled to Slovenia.
