First Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukčević Dies

(Patria) - The first Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukčević died today at the age of 75, confirmed his friend and associate Bruno Vekarić for Danas.rs.

Vukčević was born in 1950 in Belgrade, where he completed primary school and gymnasium. He grew up in Dedinje.

He graduated from the Faculty of Law in Belgrade in 1973, and passed the judicial exam in 1976.

He was elected Deputy Public Prosecutor at the First Municipal Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade in April 1978.

He became Deputy District Public Prosecutor in Belgrade in 1994, and in 2002 he was appointed Deputy Republican Public Prosecutor and Head of the Criminal Department at the Republican Public Prosecutor's Office.

In July 2003, the Serbian Parliament elected him as the War Crimes Prosecutor. In November 2009, he was re-elected to that position, where he remained until the end of 2015.
