(Patria) - The fire that broke out yesterday in the area of Gornji Tučepi was caused by a beekeeper who did not fully extinguish the embers from his smoker, the Split-Dalmatia Police Department announced.
Police officers from Makarska have completed a criminal investigation into a 65-year-old man on suspicion of committing a serious criminal offense against general safety through negligence.
The investigation established that the center of the fire was near the beehives, where the 65-year-old had earlier that day discarded embers from his smoker and poured water over them.
The beekeeper's smoker is used to calm bees with smoke when opening the hive.
A criminal report will be filed with the Municipal State Attorney's Office in Split, the statement adds.
