Wreath laid at assassination site on the 22nd anniversary of Zoran Đinđić's murder

(Patria) - On the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the assassination of the then Prime Minister of Serbia, Zoran Đinđić, the outgoing Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević, along with ministers, laid a wreath in the courtyard of the Government building, where the assassination took place, Anadolu reports.

Zoran Đinđić was the first Prime Minister of Serbia after the fall of Slobodan Milošević's regime in 2000.

During Đinđić's term, the process of democratization of Serbian society and radical economic and social reforms was initiated.

Zoran Đinđić's government strongly advocated for cooperation with the Hague Tribunal, and during that government, several indictees were arrested and handed over to the Tribunal, including the former President of Serbia and FR Yugoslavia, Slobodan Milošević.

Đinđić was murdered on March 12, 2003, in the courtyard of the Serbian Government building, and Zvezdan Jovanović, an officer of the Special Operations Unit (JSO) of the State Security Service, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for his murder.

Milorad Ulemek - Legija, commander of the JSO, was also sentenced to the same penalty for organizing the murder.

The political background of Zoran Đinđić's murder has never been revealed.
