Indictment against Veselin Veljović confirmed

(Patria) - The High Court confirmed the indictment against former Police Directorate Director Veselin Veljović, CdM was informed by that court.

The Special State Prosecutor's Office submitted on January 23rd to the Podgorica High Court an indictment against Veljović, who is accused of helping, as they claim, the head of a criminal organization, Aleksandar Mrkić, smuggle cigarettes with confidential information.

Namely, the SDT suspects that the former police director, via the Sky application on December 22, 2020, informed businessman Aleksandar Mrkić that a search of a warehouse where illegal cigarettes were stored was being prepared, thus abusing his official position.

In addition to Veljović, Nikola Mrkić and Mujo Nikočević were also arrested at the time.

Veljović is suspected of taking and, when necessary, not taking police actions on the orders of the organizer of the criminal organization, and of informing the organizer of the criminal organization about the planned activities of the Police Directorate of Montenegro.

Veljović was arrested on July 24, 2023, in Žabljak.
