Search for killer continues: He delivered food to a man, who then shot him

(Patria) - A 19-year-old young man was killed in Drniš last night, and the police are intensively searching for the suspect, a 50-year-old man who fled after the shooting.

As announced by the Šibenik-Knin Police Department, the crime occurred around 11:05 PM on the terrace of a family house in Drniš. According to information known so far, K.A., aged 50, shot the 19-year-old Croatian citizen with a firearm, who died at the scene from his injuries.

As Jutarnji learns, the murdered 19-year-old had delivered ordered food to K.A., 50, after which the latter killed him under circumstances yet to be clarified. 

The police announced during the night that a large number of police officers were on the ground, and measures to search for the perpetrator and criminal investigation to determine all circumstances of the event are underway.

The police also announced that the suspect is known to the police. In 2023, a criminal complaint was filed against him with the Municipal State Attorney's Office in Šibenik for the criminal offense of illegal possession, manufacture, and acquisition of weapons and explosive materials.

According to Jutarnji journalist Hajdi Karakaš Jakubin, K.A. was previously convicted of a murder he committed in the mid-1990s. He stabbed and then beat a young girl from the neighborhood with a pipe on the street, for which he was later sentenced to 12 years in prison with mandatory psychiatric treatment. He served his sentence, and upon release, according to some Drniš residents for Jutarnji, he was a ticking time bomb and even wrote graffiti in town saying he would kill again.

"The entire system failed in his case. We have every right to be angry and bitter. A child who was trying to earn a living was killed. A month ago, he got into a fight with a man. If they had searched his home then, I believe they would have found the weapon. He provokes conflicts, he craves attention in the wrong way. You never know what to expect from him when you pass him on the street. He is a mentally unstable person and needs supervision," a woman from Drniš told the journalist.

The search for the suspect is still ongoing, as is the clarification of the circumstances of the 19-year-old's murder.
