Yacht that caught fire in Budva last night sank

(Patria) - The fire that broke out last night on the yacht “Mavrovunija 2” in the Port of Budva was successfully extinguished after the vessel was towed to a safe distance from its berth in the marina, and timely intervention by the competent services prevented sea pollution, although the yacht later sank while grounding within the port - announced the Maritime Safety and Port Management Administration (UPSUL).

A distress call was received at 18:45, after which two vessels of the Maritime Safety and Port Management Administration were dispatched to the scene.

- At the same time, a specialized vessel equipped for preventing sea pollution from vessels was put on standby. In the first phase, the fire was partially contained, and the yacht was towed out of the marina to a safe distance from other vessels. However, due to the rekindling of the fire, vessels of the Administration, a specialized vessel from the Porto Montenegro marina, and the emergency team of the Luštica Bay marina participated in extinguishing the fire from the sea. The intervention lasted for several hours, and the fire was completely extinguished around 11 PM - UPSUL added.

They stated that the yacht completely sank during grounding in the inner part of the marina.

- The most important thing to emphasize is that there were no human casualties or injuries, and no significant pollution of the marine environment occurred. Protective booms were deployed around the sunken vessel as a preventive measure. The Maritime Safety and Port Management Administration expresses gratitude to all services and crews who participated in the intervention - UPSUL announced.

Competent investigative and prosecutorial bodies will, it is stated, conduct proceedings to determine the cause of the fire and inform the public about it.
