(Patria) - In Montenegro, 256,463 citizens identify as Montenegrins, while there are 205,370 Serbs, official census results confirmed. 41.12 percent identified as Montenegrins, and 32.93 percent as Serbs. 43.18 percent speak Serbian, and 34.52 percent speak Montenegrin.

Bosniaks make up 9.45 percent, or 58,956. Albanians make up 4.97 percent, or 30,978.

There are 10,162 Muslims and 12,824 Russians, or 2.06 percent. 17,907 citizens did not wish to declare their ethnicity, or 2.88 percent.

According to census data, 43.18 percent speak Serbian, and 34.52 percent speak Montenegrin. 215,299 citizens speak Montenegrin, and 269,307 citizens speak Serbian.

Bosnian is spoken by 6.97 percent, or 43,470 citizens. Albanian is spoken by 5.25 percent, or 32,725 citizens. Russian is spoken by 2.26 percent, or 14,731 citizens.

Serbo-Croatian is spoken by 2.08 percent, or 12,999 citizens, according to census data. 1.71 percent, or 10,691 citizens, did not wish to declare their language.

Regarding religious affiliation, 443,394 people in Montenegro stated they are Orthodox, 124,668 citizens are of Islamic faith, and 20,408 are Catholic.

There are 14,260 atheists, and over 13,000 citizens did not wish to declare their religious affiliation.

Looking at gender, 49.2 percent of the population in Montenegro are men and 50.8 percent are women, according to census results. The average age is 39.7 years.

Over 90.73 percent of citizens hold Montenegrin citizenship.

A total of 667,650 individuals were counted.

According to the preliminary results of the Census of Population, Households, and Dwellings in 2023, there are 633,158 inhabitants in Montenegro. The census collected data on 217,441 households and 396,873 dwellings, while a total of 673,203 individuals were counted during the data collection phase. The aim of publishing the preliminary census results is to timely satisfy user interest until the final census results are published, they stated.

Monstat presents part of the final results of the Census of Population, Households, and Dwellings in Montenegro, which was conducted at the end of last year.

Citizens had the right and opportunity from October 1 to 7 to check their data on ethnic-cultural characteristics collected by the census of population, households, and dwellings through special software.

According to the preliminary census results, there are 633,158 inhabitants in Montenegro, which is two percent more than in 2011.
