(Patria) - The Novi Sad Assembly today elected a new mayor, Žarko Mićin, and opposition councilors were prevented from entering the session.
Strong police forces have been present since this morning in front of the assembly building, and a large number of students and citizens threw yogurt, paint, and eggs at the police.
Police with riot control equipment, shields, helmets, and police dogs, arrived by bus and numerous police vans.
According to N1 Serbia, police officers in the second row, behind the cordon, threw unbroken yogurts back at the citizens. According to some of the protesters, a cup of paint hit a girl in the face. She is currently being examined at the Emergency Center.
Opposition councilors claim that the police also used force against them and prevented them from entering the assembly.
Shortly before 12 o'clock, 15 minutes of silence began in front of the Novi Sad Assembly in memory of the 15 victims of the canopy collapse at the Novi Sad Railway Station.
