Bus driver salaries in Split drastically increased, reaching up to 2,000 euros

(Patria) - Split's "Promet" solved the problem of driver shortage in just half a year. They attracted them with the campaign "Both job and category", but also with much higher salaries.

With the new collective agreement, the minimum salary is 1,500 euros, and depending on overtime and weekend work - a driver can earn up to two thousand euros.

Lucija drove buses across Europe for eight years. For the last two months, she has been closer to home.

- I decided to make a change. At that moment, "Promet" offered better conditions, increased salary. I came and so far I am satisfied - said Lucija Šipić, a driver for "Promet" Split.

And why wouldn't she be. With the new collective agreement, salaries have - drastically increased!

- From January 1st, the salary of a driver employed at "Promet" should range from 1,500 to 1,700 euros net.

This includes a tax-free allowance, but without overtime and weekend work, so if we include such an arrangement, the salary should be around 2,000 euros - said Hrvoje Mlikota, spokesperson for "Promet" Split.

Nikola is also satisfied. After driving trucks for twenty-five years, he decided on a more responsible, but also calmer job.

- "Promet" offered the category and a job. So I decided on that. I have three children and a wife. Now I passed the test and started driving. Now it's a gentleman's job - you come clean, you leave clean - says Nikola Dujović, a driver for "Promet" Split.

Thanks to the campaign and excellent conditions, they have hired thirty new drivers in the past six months. There are no foreigners among them, and Lucija is one of five women.

- People react very well when they see a woman behind the wheel. Yesterday, I got a box of cookies from a woman who was so happy that a woman was driving her, so - they react well - said Šipić.

Passengers will react even better. Right now, in the second cycle of the campaign, another 30 drivers are being selected from fifty applicants. Whoever applied, applied. Now they have enough.

- We will no longer have problems with cancellations of departures and reductions of the timetable, and in the foreseeable future we can talk about strengthening the most frequent lines - emphasized Mlikota.

The problem is solved. Being a driver at "Promet" is a hit again. There is no great philosophy here, it was just necessary to offer a better salary, reports HRT.
