
(Patria) - A man (25) has been criminally reported and handed over to the custody supervisor after he unlawfully took a city bus in Rijeka last night and caused a traffic accident.
According to police data, the incident occurred around 8:35 PM at the Fiumara bus stop, where the city bus driver briefly left the running vehicle unattended.
A 25-year-old Croatian national took advantage of this, got behind the wheel, and drove the bus through the city center.
Upon reaching the intersection of Vinko Benc and Franjo Čandek streets, the man improperly overtook stopped vehicles with the bus and hit the rear of a car with Rijeka license plates, driven by a 31-year-old driver. After the collision, he fled the scene.
The police soon found him in Zvonimirova Street, where they stopped him, arrested him, and brought him in for criminal investigation.
The investigation established that he was driving the bus with 1.27 per mille of alcohol in his blood and without a valid driver's license for that vehicle category.
Due to suspicion of the criminal offense of unauthorized use of another's movable property, the police filed a criminal report against him with the competent state prosecutor's office and handed him over to the custody supervisor.
In addition, the police filed a misdemeanor report against him for multiple traffic violations.
A indictment proposal was submitted to the court, proposing a total fine of 5,820 euros and a prison sentence of up to 60 days.
