Parliamentary elections in Slovenia on March 22

(Patria) - Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar today decided to call regular parliamentary elections for March 22.

The election process begins on Monday, January 12, when it will be possible to start submitting signatures of support for candidate lists.

President Pirc Musar called for participation in the elections and warned about disinformation.

- I want the elections to be held fairly, I will be vigilant about disinformation and manipulation, including from abroad - said Pirc Musar.

She emphasized that elections are a celebration of democracy and an opportunity to reflect on what kind of society we want to build and what kind of future we want.

She called for a culture of dialogue and respect for diversity, and for respectful, responsible, and tolerant communication during the election campaign.

Pirc Musar set January 12 as the date for the start of the election process. The official campaign will begin one month before election Sunday.

Voters will have the opportunity to express their support for individual candidate lists by giving their signature starting next week.

All those who wish to enter the electoral race must submit their candidacies by the start of the official election campaign.

This year's parliamentary elections will be the tenth in the history of independent Slovenia. The first elections for the National Assembly were held in 1992.

The last parliamentary elections, held on April 24, 2022, were the first regular elections since 2008. Voters went to the polls early in 2011, 2014, and 2018.
