Osmani confirms: Bahamas officially recognizes Kosovo

(Patria) - The Bahamas has officially recognized the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state, announced the President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani.

Osmani signed the relevant agreement in the Bahamas with the local Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis.

She announced a joint statement from Kosovo and the Bahamas on social media, stating that the two countries have established diplomatic relations, which take effect on the date of signing the Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations, in accordance with international law and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.

The Bahamas and Kosovo have affirmed their commitment to the goals and principles of the United Nations Charter, including respect for sovereignty, equality of states, and peaceful settlement of disputes.

They have also agreed to develop their relations based on mutual respect, reciprocity, and constructive engagement.

The two countries have expressed their intention to deepen cooperation in areas of common interest, including political consultations, trade and investment, tourism, education and culture, technology and innovation, public sector cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges, in accordance with the laws and procedures of each state.

The statement also states that the Bahamas and Kosovo expect to build a warm and productive partnership that will serve the interests of both peoples and contribute to international peace and cooperation.

Syria, Sudan, and Kenya have also recognized Kosovo's independence this year.

The total number of countries that have recognized Kosovo's independence is a subject of debate, as Kosovo sources claim it to be 121 countries, while Serbian officials claim the number is significantly lower, below one hundred.
