Huge queues at the entrance to Croatia due to the new entry and exit system

(Patria) - Registration of all passengers entering or leaving the EU by taking biometric data (fingerprints) and facial photographs is visible at all EU border crossings.

Huge queues were recorded today at the border crossings of Croatia with Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina because the system is being applied in its entirety from today, as in other EU member states.

A reader reported waiting almost nine hours on a bus entering Croatia from Serbia at the Bajakovo border crossing.

EES is one of the key EU information systems in the area of border management, modernizing and improving border control for citizens of third countries entering the Schengen area for short stays.

The gradual introduction of the system began on October 12, 2025, allowing member states to adapt technical systems and procedures and train officials, and full implementation began on April 10, 2026.
