Anniversary of the death of national hero Midhat Hujdur-Hujka marked

(Patria) - By laying flowers at Mostar's Šehitluci, the 28th anniversary of the city's de-blocking, and the anniversary of the death of Midhat Hujdur-Hujka, a national hero and a Golden Lily of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was marked in Mostar today. The marking of this significant date for the city and Bosnia and Herzegovina was attended by the Minister for Veterans' Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, who recalled the importance of commemorating this date.

'Today we are here in Mostar, remembering our hero of the liberation war, Midhat Hujdur-Hujka, who lost his life in the battles for the de-blocking of this city. Thanks to his sacrifice and the sacrifice of his comrades, Mostar was defended, and Hujka laid down his life on this day 28 years ago, becoming a symbol of resistance and the strength of the people of Mostar,' stated Minister Osmanović.

The KS delegation also included the Speaker of the Assembly Elvedin Okerić, as well as MP Elmedin Konaković.

Midhat Hujdur – Hujka, or Mito, as his closest comrades and friends called him, was born on December 28, 1953, in Mostar. From 1986, he worked in Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad for the Bosnian-Herzegovinian company "Hidrogradnja". As a reserve policeman, he reported to the "Luka" Police Station in Mostar in December 1991, and when the Army of RBiH was formed, he was appointed commander of the battalion of the First Mostar Brigade. He died in the battles for the de-blocking of Mostar, and was posthumously awarded the rank of brigadier general. In 1992, he was awarded the war decoration Golden Lily, and in 1994, the Order of the Hero.
