(Patria) - A retaining wall and part of an access road collapsed this morning at a construction site near the Center of Excellence in Kragujevac. The site belongs to the company RP Invest, which is building the structure "without a building permit," Nova ekonomija reports.
Footage of the incident shows a section of the road, which had been undermined and supported by a retaining wall, collapsing towards the construction site. The cause of the collapse is not yet known.
Media previously reported that the mandatory sign with information about the investor, contractor, and building permit number was not present at the site.
Nova ekonomija stated that the construction site belongs to the company RP Invest 1980, and that the structure is being built without the necessary permit. This company submitted a request for its issuance 11 days ago, but the request was rejected yesterday, as evident from the decision published in the Central Registry of Building Permits.
The explanation for the rejection states, among other things, that "the dimensions of the underground floors are not aligned" with those in the Location Conditions and Urban Project. It also warns that "the foundation slab and walls with all layers must not exceed the boundaries of the two adjacent plots."
It is also stated that it is necessary to align the specification of special parts regarding garage and parking spaces, as well as data on the building's dimensions.
„According to the Location Conditions, after obtaining them, the investor is obliged to conclude a contract for the construction of missing infrastructure and a contract for connection services to the DSEE, which must be submitted. Also, it is stipulated that the investor submits a contract for the construction of the missing road," the decision states.
Nova ekonomija attempted to obtain a comment from the company RP Invest, but the phone numbers known to the editorial office were switched off or invalid.
After the collapse, a purported statement from RP Invest appeared on social media, the authenticity of which the editorial office could not confirm. It states that the location experienced destabilization of the ground due to a combination of weather factors in previous days.
„Rain and snow, although the snow did not remain on the surface, contributed to constant soil moisture in deeper layers, which gradually reduced its stability," the statement reads.
As stated, this resulted in the collapse of a part of the retaining wall below the road, and RP Invest teams went to the site and began preparations for remediation.
