(Patria) - Polling stations in four municipalities in northern Kosovo closed at 7 PM, marking the end of the referendum to dismiss the mayors. Serbs boycotted the referendum at the call of the Srpska Lista party, and turnout was so low that it can be said there were more observers and members of polling station committees than citizens who came to the polling stations, N1 reporter reports.
The President of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Kosovo, Krešnik Radoniqi, announced that today's voting process for the dismissal of the presidents of the municipalities in the north has failed. At the last press conference, he announced that 124 people voted in Leposavić out of 13,000 registered, and 18 in Zubin Potok, out of 6,000 eligible to vote. No one voted in Zvečan, and in North Mitrovica there were a total of 111 votes.
"The majority of registered voters did not vote as prescribed by the Law on Local Self-Government in the Republic of Kosovo, so the required 50 percent (plus one voter) was not achieved," he said.
Therefore, as he stated, the CEC considers the citizens' initiative to dismiss the presidents of the municipalities of Leposavić, Zubin Potok, Zvečan, and North Mitrovica to have failed.
The prosecution and police of Kosovo stated that there were no incidents or problems during the voting that could have affected the course of the vote.
