Storm in Zagreb: Wind uprooted trees, roofs, public transport not running, classes cancelled

(Patria) - Due to dangerous weather conditions caused by stormy winds with hurricane gusts, and to protect the safety of students in traffic, there will be no classes in Zagreb's primary and secondary schools on Friday, the City of Zagreb announced.

The situation in Zagreb's public transport was seriously disrupted this morning due to the storm and fallen trees, said ZET spokesperson Domagoj Zeba for HRT.

- We are recording numerous interruptions of tram and bus lines, mainly due to fallen trees, said Zeba, adding that emergency services are working non-stop but are unable to intervene at all locations in a timely manner, he said.

Tram lines 8 and 14 do not run to Mihaljevac, but are rerouted towards Kvaternik Square, while line 15 is not in service. Bus transport has been introduced on the Kaptol – Gračani route. Damage to the overhead lines was also recorded in Vukovarska Street near the West Station, while firefighters removed fallen trees in Ilica.

- Eight bus lines are also interrupted, warned Zeba.

Trees have been felled on roads at several locations in Zagreb, and damage to numerous buildings and roofs has also been reported. The wind reached speeds of up to 120 km/h.
