Unusual case in Zagreb: Broke into MUP building in broad daylight, disabled alarm, and stole equipment worth 10,000 euros

(Patria) - An electrical technician from Zagreb walked into a building in the Zagreb settlement of Kruge one afternoon and took an entire small warehouse of technical equipment from it.

It turned out that H.C. stole from the Ministry of the Interior, specifically the Directorate of Civil Protection, in broad daylight and took equipment worth around 10,000 euros.

According to the indictment filed against him these days, H.C. drove to the residential and commercial building in his blue Škoda Fabia and took the elevator to the ninth floor.

He then broke the padlock securing the metal gate and continued up the stairs to the tenth floor of the building. He then broke the metal door of the alarm system and cut the electrical wires.

From the space he broke into, he took ten amplifiers, two "Marathon" brand batteries, 70 Ah each, a battery charging unit, a microphone, a "Tetra" digital radio device, an IP radio modem, small installation materials, and a communication and control unit.

H. C. did not count on being recorded by a surveillance camera in the building, which captured the moment he loaded the stolen equipment into his car, with the license plates clearly visible in the recording.

The police quickly located and brought him to justice, and all the stolen items were found at his home.

My wife and I have small monthly incomes. Otherwise, that equipment is not worth as much as you stated - H. C. said in his defense when he was questioned at the premises of the Municipal Public Prosecutor's Office.

However, the prosecution will still prosecute him for the criminal offense against property - aggravated theft, and will insist that he defrauded the Ministry of the Interior of 10,000 euros, and he faces between one and eight years in prison.
