Parliamentary majority in Croatia on the horizon: Will dilemmas be resolved in the week ahead?

(Patria) - In two days, on Tuesday, it should become known whether HDZ and the Homeland Movement have reached an agreement on a new parliamentary majority and who else, besides them, will be part of it.

Today, as HRT reports, none of the political actors wanted to speak more concretely about it, so we will have to wait a few more days for at least part of the answers to the questions that have been raised since election night.

From both HDZ and DP, messages about approaching the formation of a parliamentary majority, but it remains unclear what will happen with HDZ's former partner SDSS.

In front of the Orthodox Church on Cvjetni Square, where he was at the liturgy for Orthodox Easter, journalists awaited SDSS president Milorad Pupovac with inevitable political questions. They were interested in what would happen with SDSS.

- Everything that interests you and the public will be heard in a few days. On this day, no one should be disappointed, and if there are any concerns that we all share in this country - there probably are, but today we are celebrating, Pupovac told journalists.

The details of the negotiations are not known even to HDZ's long-time coalition partners, and some of them are not happy about it.

Hrebak skeptical about forming a majority

Liberal Dario Hrebak, who won a parliamentary mandate for the second time on the list of HDZ and its partners, stated that HSLS supported Plenković in negotiations on forming a majority, and alluding to DP, he noted that the way that party sets conditions is not good.

- Building something based on opposition is never good, and we will see how stable this majority will be at all, said Hrebak, who believes that the HDZ-DP negotiations are essentially finished, and he regrets that no one asked HSLS anything either.

- I see that everyone takes us for granted, but HSLS is a much more serious party than 'off-the-shelf goods', he stated.

In the coming week, everything will be clearer and the exact numbers will be known. But quite certainly, the majority will be secured, said Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković in Bjelovar, answering journalists' questions about the course of negotiations between HDZ and DP aimed at securing the necessary 76 votes to form a parliamentary majority.

Asked whether SDSS will continue to be part of the majority, Jandroković replied that voters clearly sent a message about which direction they want, but also that the policy towards minorities will continue in terms of protecting all their rights and programs.

- There will certainly be no change there, and how the parliamentary majority will be formed, we will agree in the next stage, Jandroković explained.
