Student blockades continue – Belgrade also pays tribute to those killed in Cetinje and Arilje

(Patria) - Students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Law blocked the intersection of Kraljice Marije and Roosevelt Street in Belgrade for 29 minutes on Thursday, paying tribute to the victims of the canopy collapse at the Railway Station in Novi Sad, as well as the victims in Arilje and Cetinje.

The participants of the gathering in Belgrade stood in silence with banners reading: "With all our hearts for Cetinje and brotherly Montenegro", "Engineers against the machinery", "We are not waiting for instructions, we are waiting for changes". Drivers who found themselves in the queue during the blockade did not honk, but got out and stood in front of their cars, and there were no incidents, reports Radio Television of Serbia.

Part of the students, who welcomed the New Year in silence in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš, continued with blockades of faculty buildings and the rectorate across Serbia after the large protest at Slavija Square, which was joined by farmers, actors, activists and other citizens following the tragedy at the Main Railway Station in Novi Sad, where 15 people died and two others were seriously injured.

At the same time, the action "Stop, Serbia" is being held in places across Serbia, in which students and citizens pay tribute to the 15 victims in Novi Sad with a fifteen-minute silence, blocking certain streets and squares.

The demands of the students in the blockades are the publication of all documentation on the reconstruction of the Railway Station, the dropping of charges against arrested and detained students, activists and citizens at previous protests following the tragedy in Novi Sad, filing criminal charges against all attackers on students, professors and citizens, and an increase in the budget for faculties by 20 percent.
