Man who set himself on fire in front of Croatian government building dies from injuries

(Patria) - A 57-year-old man who poured gasoline on himself and set himself on fire this morning around 9:40 AM in front of the Croatian government building on St. Mark's Square in Zagreb has died at the Traumatology Clinic of the University Hospital Centre.

"The male person who self-immolated today on St. Mark's Square in Zagreb and was treated at the Traumatology Clinic of the Sisters of Mercy University Hospital Centre in the intensive care unit has, despite the efforts of doctors, died from the injuries sustained after 9 PM," the hospital announced.

ZAGREB: Man pours gasoline on himself and sets himself on fire on St. Mark's Square, in serious condition

(Patria) - On the southern side of St. Mark's Square in Zagreb, where the Croatian government is located, an unknown person poured gasoline on themselves and set themselves on fire.

The aforementioned man sustained fourth-degree burns over his entire body, and doctors from the Clinic reported that he also suffered internal burns and arrived at the hospital in extremely critical condition, as almost his entire body surface was affected by burns.

At 9:37 AM, the police received a report that a person had set themselves on fire on St. Mark's Square, where the Croatian Parliament and the government building are located.

The man set himself on fire outside the fence surrounding St. Mark's Square, after which he was transported to the Traumatology Clinic.

At that moment, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković was in a meeting at the government building.

"As soon as he was informed, the Prime Minister and the ministers of finance and economy immediately came out in front of the Banski Dvori building to the scene of the accident to see what had happened, while a doctor from a nearby clinic was already providing first aid to the injured person," government spokesperson Marko Milić announced this morning.
